No Sex and the City (!)

Ok, that's a cheeky title. I couldn't resist. Anyway, moving on.

I finished my practising prematurely this evening -- not out of will, but out of sheer mental and physical exhaustion -- so I decided to spend the night with my beloved London.

Making my way to the city centre, crowds of people poured in and out of theatres and pubs, while dance beats pounded through glass walls of clubs. And of course, one finds me slumped along the wall in a corner of Foyles with my nose in a book.

London's largest independent bookshop, Foyles has the most exciting and expansive Poetry section I've ever seen, as well as entire shelves dedicated to books on soup! I ended up walking out with Qian Zhongshu's Fortress Besieged, one of the most important works of Chinese literature in the 20th century. Some historical fiction to get my juices going!

They say it takes confidence to dine out alone. I say it takes a good book.

Armed with my new read, I headed straight for the restaurant I count on for delicious Bibimbap. In the restaurant queue behind me stood a Chinese couple. The young man turned to me and started to chat with great zeal, asking all sorts of questions about myself, and finally, asked why I am dining alone with a playful tone in his voice. Meanwhile his girlfriend fidgeted awkwardly, at times lovingly fixing his shirt collar alternated with looking around like the out-of-place third party. Not once did he acknowledge her, but the poor girl looked too innocent to stand up to his behavior. Luckily, the waiter rescued me from the unpleasant situation by ushering me to my table. I would much rather dine with a book than with a man who chats with other women while on a date. That is a no-no, guys!

In any case, I had the perfect evening doing exactly what I love to do apart from music: read and eat. Though I still love music the best. I love it with every cell of my body.
